Please take a few moments to read the rules and regulations of the competition before entering.
  • Entries must be the sole work of the entrant, and must be original and previously unpublished.
  • Entrants must be aged 18 years or older.
  • Competitions are open to anyone living anywhere in the world.
  • Stories must not exceed 1500 words. Those which are longer will be disqualified.
  • A word count must be given at the end of the story. This does not include the title.
  • The title of your story must be included at the beginning of the story.
  • Your name and address must be included in your covering email.
  • Multiple entries are accepted.
  • All entries must be in English.
  • All entries must be double spaced in Arial 10pt.
  • The entry fee is €5 per story, payable through PayPal only.
  • No refunds will be made under any circumstances.
  • No re-writes or corrections can be accepted once the story has been submitted.
  • Entries must be sent via email as a Microsoft Word attachment.
  • Please check your work thoroughly for grammar and spelling. Although we accept that one or two typos may slip through the net, entries which are riddled with errors will not be considered.
  • We accept no liability for entries which do not arrive, so please ask for a 'read receipt' if you want acknowledgement of reception.
  • The winner will be announced on the site two weeks after the competition closes.
  • Prize money will be paid via PayPal only, and will be sent at the same time the winners are announced.
  • The winner and commendations will be published on the day the results are announced.
  • If you have any kind of contract that would prevent us from being able to publish or award a prize, please do not enter. We are not here to make lawyers rich.
  • Copyright remains with the author of the original work.
  • The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Entry into the competition implies understanding and acceptance of the rules & regulations.
  • Email entries to competition@cheerreader.co.uk, stating clearly which competition your entry is for - spring, summer, autumn or winter.
